Okay. To be transparent, I may have a problem. A mild addiction? A significant lack of willpower? An obsession? Or a powerful affinity? I don’t know, and to be honest, I don’t care. If watching every crime/cop/FBI show on TV is wrong, I have no interest in being right.
Action, usually a bit of romance, legalese (I was a paralegal in college after all), and men in uniforms (anyone have a contact for LaRoyce that plays Kevin on Chicago PD…asking for a friend), just enough medical crossover to get me going, and enough depth and character development to keep my ADHD brain engaged. My most recent guilty pleasure (with zero guilt) and current binge-worthy show is Bosch-Legacy, after really enjoying Ballard, its recent spinoff.
I was watching tonight and absolutely fell in love with Bosch’s one-liner of “Everyone Counts or No One Counts”. He shared it in the context of fighting for justice for all victims of crime, regardless of their community standing, financial status, or even troubled histories. His own mother’s murder was covered up and went unsolved for years; as a result, in his eyes, the fact that no one cared because she was a prostitute.
Why am I writing about this? I guarantee my friend Margaret is saying Oh my Gawd, Allie, land the plane already! So here’s my takeaway. My point in sharing all this. “Everyone counts or not One counts” is such a great statement and especially poignant given the divisiveness of ourworld currently. Entire regions of our world are murdering each other over the thought that their religious beliefs are holier than someone else’s.
Absolute hatred and disdain are festering over differing political beliefs and viewpoints. Families were torn apart because in the end, it was all forone, but not one for all. Then there’s the topics of race and sexual orientation that are boiling over and ready to blow.
We don’t have to agree on everything. Hell, we don’t have to agree on ANYTHING. But we MUST find a way to respect others’ opinions and live peacefully with differences. The current state of intolerance, violence, and literal hatred over the things that set us apart is not a sustainable path forward. No one’s “rights”, “opinions,” and “values” are any more or less valid than anyone else’s. Different perhaps, but not lesser than. This simple line is a really great reminder that everyone matters because if not, then no one does.
